Once upon a time, back in the wild and wonderful 1980s, Porsche offered something rather specialâa naturally aspirated 911 with the beefed-up bodywork of the Turbo. It was called the Carrera with Super Sport Equipment, and it gave driving purists the best of both worlds: power and poise without the lag of a turbo. Fast forward to 2025, and Singerâthe California-based sorcerers of classic 911 restorationâhave summoned that spirit back to life, with a little help from Cosworth, Red Bull Advanced Technologies, and a generous dose of modern wizardry.
Enter the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Reimagined by Singer, the newest chapter in a story thatâs captured the hearts of petrolheads across the globe. This isnât just another restomod. Itâs a 420-horsepower, naturally aspirated masterpiece, powered by a 4.0-litre flat-six engine that sings all the way to 8,000 rpm. Variable valve timing? Yes. Water-cooled heads and air-cooled cylinders? Absolutely. Cosworth lent a hand with all that, because of course they did.
â
And the drama doesnât stop at the engine bay. The car is built around the original Type 964 monocoque, now stiffened and honed with the same kind of tech Red Bull uses to win championships. The result? A chassis that grips, dives and dances with astonishing precision. Want adjustable suspension? Itâs got four-way electronic dampers you can tweak without leaving your seat.
Singer didnât just go under the skin, thoughâthey nailed the styling too. The wide, carbon-fibre bodywork, inspired by the G-Series era, is equal parts aggressive and elegant. Owners can even choose between a fixed wing or a speed-activated one, just like back in the day. Fancy period-correct pop-up rally lights? Tick that box too.
Inside, itâs all hand-crafted luxury and motorsport intent. Think velvet corduroy seat inserts, burnished leather seams, and dials so pretty youâll stare at them at traffic lights. Thereâs a manual gearbox with an optional exposed linkage, because nothing should come between a driver and their machine. Air-con, sat-nav, Apple CarPlayâyes, itâs all there, but subtly integrated so the experience stays pure.
Each car begins its second life as a humble 964, stripped back to bare metal, then meticulously rebuilt to the ownerâs exacting tastes. Only 100 examples will be reimagined in this way, making each one as rare as it is ravishing.
And the best bit? This isnât just for old-school Porsche fans. Whether you grew up reading about the 911 in car mags or only just discovered its siren call, Singerâs services let you become part of the legendâone exquisitely restored flat-six at a time.

There was never meant to be another XJ12 or Daimler Double Six after Jaguar pulled the plug on the XJ Series 3, allegedly because under British Leyland ownership the S3âs replacement was designed to specifically not accommodate a V8 engine. Jaguarâs concern that the company would âthrow a Rover V8 into anythingâ being greater than the market potential from a luxurious Ăźber-Jag.
But Ford had different ideas when it took over Jaguar in 1990, and one of the first jobs it signed off on was a project to redesign the entire front end of the car to accommodate the 6.0-litre V12 from the XJS, thus giving Jaguar a credible rival to the top-of-the-tree Mercedes S-Class and BMW 7-Series models.
The price of redeveloping the XJ (under the codename XJ81) would come in at more than ÂŁ35 million â in isolation, a cost that Jaguar would have found extremely difficult to justify as the XJ40 generation was already heading into its final years. However, the decision to develop the 40âs replacement off the same basic architecture meant that the reengineering could progress, based on the V12 also going into the new X300.
Codenamed X305, the V12 variant of the X300 was available soon after launch and was sold as both a Jaguar XJ12 and a Daimler Double Six.
The V12 engine was, naturally, much heavier than the six-pot as well, meaning Jaguar had to create stiffer, more heavy-duty springs for the front end, which were compensated for by a smaller anti-roll bar to allow the softer and more cushioned ride to which V12 Jaguar buyers were accustomed.
One of just 564 cars built, this example isnât a low-mileage, molly coddled example, but it wears its 136,000 miles well. It has individual rear seats, with bum heaters in the back and polished burr walnut picnic tables. At a fiver under eight grand, itâs a stupendous amount of V12-powered loveliness for the money. Just try not to think about the fuel economyâŚ

The Formula 1 roadshow hits the vibrant streets of Florida this weekend as the Miami Grand Prix returns for its fourth outing â and if previous editions are anything to go by, weâre in for a blockbuster. With its palm-lined straights, high-speed corners and backdrop of Hard Rock Stadium, the Miami GP blends pure racing spectacle with that unmistakable American showbiz flair. Think Super Bowl meets Silverstone â only with more palm trees and a fake marina thrown in for good measure.
The race weekend runs from Friday 2 May to Sunday 4 May, with the main event getting underway at 21:30 BST (16:30 local time) on Sunday. As usual, the action begins with Free Practice on Friday and builds through to Qualifying on Saturday. UK fans can catch all the drama live on Sky Sports F1, while Channel 4 will be showing highlights for those who fancy a slightly more relaxed viewing experience.
â
How the 2025 season has shaped up so far
Weâre now deep into the 2025 F1 season, and the championship battle is finely poised. While Red Bull started strong with a string of dominant performances, the chasing pack has been steadily closing the gap. Ferrari looks reinvigorated, Mercedes has shown flashes of its old brilliance, and McLaren is finally starting to string together consistent results. With every race bringing new developments, fresh rivalries, and the occasional curveball, itâs already shaping up to be one of the most competitive seasons in recent memory â and Miami could prove to be a pivotal weekend.
But itâs not just about lap times and strategy â Miami is fast becoming one of the hottest tickets on the F1 calendar, and not just for motorsport fans. The grid walk is likely to be packed with A-list celebs, pop stars, athletes and influencers, all soaking up the electric atmosphere. If thereâs a race where the guest list is as competitive as the grid itself, this is it.
On the track, the stakes are high. Miamiâs notoriously slick surface and tight corners have a reputation for throwing up surprises. Itâs a circuit that rewards bold overtakes and punishes mistakes â and the ever-present threat of a safety car means nothing is guaranteed until the chequered flag drops.
So whether youâre a lifelong F1 obsessive or just in it for the big-name buzz and spectacle, the Miami Grand Prix is set to deliver another weekend of high-speed drama, sun-soaked tension and headline-worthy moments. Turn up the volume, stock the fridge, and settle in â Formula 1 is going full throttle in Florida.

If ever there were a car to make your heart race before youâve even turned the key, itâs the brand-new Ferrari 296 Speciale. Unveiled today in Maranello (29 April 2025), this exhilarating new beast is the latest evolution in Ferrariâs iconic line of mid-rear-engined berlinettas â and itâs not just special by name.
Taking inspiration from legendary predecessors like the 458 Speciale and 488 Pista, the 296 Speciale is the most electrifying (literally and figuratively) chapter yet. At its core is a cutting-edge plug-in hybrid powertrain that delivers a jaw-dropping 880 cv â thatâs 50 more horses than the already ferocious 296 GTB. Itâs the most powerful rear-wheel-drive Ferrari ever to roll off the production line.
But this car isnât just about numbers. Oh no â itâs about feel. Itâs about the moment you throw it into a corner and it responds like itâs reading your mind. With a short wheelbase, bespoke suspension, and a clever âextra boostâ strategy that knows exactly when to give you more oomph, the 296 Speciale offers a driving experience thatâs not only thrilling but almost telepathic.
Ferrariâs engineers didnât stop at power â theyâve gone all-in on the handling, too. Thanks to a suite of aerodynamic wizardry, including some seriously clever new downforce-enhancing features, the 296 Speciale clings to the tarmac with 20% more grip than the GTB. Whether youâre carving up country roads or tearing around a track, this car delivers razor-sharp agility and unbeatable stability.
Weight-saving measures help it stay lean and lightning quick, while every tweak, from the chassis to the electronics, has been laser-focused on one thing: putting a massive grin on the face of anyone lucky enough to drive it.
So, whoâs it for? The Ferrarista who wants more than just speed. The driver who lives for connection, for feedback, for that intoxicating feeling when man and machine move as one. The 296 Speciale isnât just a car â itâs a celebration of what driving should be.
This is Ferrari, turned up to eleven. Fancy a go?

Itâs not common for a car to be given a comprehensive facelift in its fourth decade, but then the original Mini is no ordinary car.
Its renaissance came after the formation of Rover Special Products (RSP) in 1990, whose first job was to reincarnate the Mini Cooper, largely to meet demand from the Japanese market. It was a massive hit, leading to a wave of global interest in the worldâs favourite small car and seeing sales figures triple in its 31st year on sale.
The new Cooper was seen as potentially the Miniâs swan song, as upcoming emissions legislation and the need for catalytic converters, plus mandatory airbags and other safety features meant investment was needed in the Mini to keep it alive into the mid-Nineties, but such was its popularity that, instead, the increase in sales generated enough income to modify the Mini and buy it another decade on sale, the final car finally coming off the line in October 2000.Â
On the back of the carâs resurgence came a new range of special editions, each one developed with a theme in mind.
The Rio was one of the plushest of the lot â velour trim and gorgeous pearlescent Caribbean Blue paintwork being the main selling points. A total of 750 were produced, of which less than 100 are known to be still on the road.
This one is a lovely example, the like of which is unlikely to ever be repeated. It has been garaged all its life and has covered less than 7,000 miles from new â yes, thatâs 7,000 miles. Barely run-inâŚ
If you want a superb example of a Nineties Rover Mini, youâre unlikely to find better â and although ÂŁ13,995 nay sound a lot for a Mini, where else will you find one like this?

With the sunshine finally making an appearance across the UK, itâs the perfect excuse to give your car a proper spring clean. A sparkling vehicle doesnât just look good â regular cleaning helps protect your paintwork, maintain value, and makes every journey feel fresher.
Start with a pre-wash â something like a snow foam or citrus degreaser helps loosen winter grime before you even touch the paint. Apply it generously, let it dwell, then rinse off thoroughly. This step reduces swirl marks when you move on to washing.
Use a dedicated car shampoo (we recommend a pH-neutral formula) and a microfibre wash mitt to gently clean from top to bottom. Donât forget your wheels â a separate mitt or soft brush plus a wheel cleaner will do wonders.
Inside, declutter, hoover everything, and use an interior detailer for that like-new feel.
Finish with a protective layer â either a liquid wax, spray sealant, or ceramic coating â to give your paintwork long-lasting shine and protection from UV rays and rain.
Whether youâre prepping for the summer or just want your car looking its best, a good clean makes all the difference.
Got a photo of your freshly detailed ride gleaming in the sun? Tag us â weâd love to share your spring shine with fellow showgoers!

Renault is reimagining the van â and the result is smart, electric, and seriously clever. As joint sponsors of the World Truck Pulling Championship at The British Motor Show 2025, Renault Trucks and Sparks Commercials are also showcasing the technology thatâs shaping the future of commercial vehicles.
Meet the Trafic, Estafette, and Goelette â Renaultâs first electric vans built as Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs). Developed by Ampere, theyâre packed with advanced tech that puts them in a league of their own.
These arenât your typical LCVs. With a powerful onboard operating system, they can update themselves remotely, just like your smartphone. Whether itâs new driving features, improved safety, or enhanced connectivity, these vans grow and improve over time.
Every job is different, and now your van can be too. Whether youâre delivering parcels, managing a fleet, or running a specialist conversion, these vehicles adapt to your needs. Drivers can access personalised settings, and businesses can integrate custom apps and tools directly into the vehicleâs system.
With constant monitoring and predictive maintenance, these vans can flag issues before they become problems. That means fewer breakdowns, more time on the road, and lower running costs â especially important for busy fleets.
Because they can be regularly updated with new features, these vans donât age as quickly as traditional models. That helps retain value over time, giving businesses more for their investment.
Renault Trucks and Sparks Commercials are proud sponsors of the World Truck Pulling Championship at The British Motor Show 2025. From cutting-edge electric vans to raw pulling power in the arena, theyâre celebrating the full range of what commercial vehicles can do â today and in the future.

The more things change, the more they stay the sameâŚ.
This was a belief certainly true of the Nissan 370Z, which built on a long lineage of iconic Z-badged models to ensure an affordable, enticing, and engaging heritage remained unspoiled in the face of rapidly evolving modern technology; soldiering on until 2021 despite being baded on the350Z of the early 2000s.
When this example was built in 2012, it was already quite long-in-the-tooth, based on a 10-year-old design that was, itself, a glorious anachronism. But to Z-Car lovers, thatâs very much core to its appeal â the rear wheel drive GT layout and longitudinal engine recalling the very virtues that made the original Datsun 240Z of 1969 a global sensation.
In-car tech is one thing â and itâs something Japan does very well â but the 370Z is deliberately analogue; a car in which the nuances of chassis control and the silken loveliness of a normally aspirated six-cylinder engine were left well-and-truly alone, for the connoisseur of GT motoring to thoroughly enjoy, peppered with a twitch of tail-happiness to keep you on your toes.
After all, whatâs not to like about a 328bhp, 3.7-litre V6, with a six-speed manual gearbox, 0-62mph in 5.3 seconds and a top speed electronically pegged at 155mph, in a car thatâs still light enough to feel like a proper sports car even if it does have a weighty old power plant buried in its snout?
If you want a new-ish car with an old-school appeal, then this example is one thatâs hard to beat â especially with its Starsky &Hutch-like colour scheme. Thereâs no built-in technological obsolescence, justthe rare and beguiling feel of a proper old-school GT.

âFrom Formula 1 to the worldâs most grueling endurance races, McLaren is set to make its mark on a new frontier.
McLarenâs motorsport pedigree needs no introduction â a name synonymous with speed, precision, and innovation on the Formula 1 circuit. But now, McLaren is gearing up to take on a different kind of challenge: endurance racing. And itâs not just a casual foray into the sport â itâs a full-scale assault on some of the worldâs toughest races.
In a major announcement this year, McLaren confirmed it will field a team in the upcoming World Endurance Championship (WEC), marking the brandâs return to endurance racing for the first time in nearly two decades. The move signifies a bold new chapter for McLaren, with the British team aiming to make an impact on events like the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours, one of the most grueling tests of man and machine.
The Return of McLaren to Endurance
For those who know McLarenâs history, the decision to return to endurance racing makes perfect sense. The brandâs roots trace back to founder Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander who was not only an F1 icon but also a respected figure in endurance racing. Back in 1966, McLarenâs cars competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, with their legacy continuing to grow through Formula 1 dominance and later successes in other motorsport disciplines.
After focusing on Formula 1 for years, McLaren has now shifted its attention to endurance racing, taking on the challenge of hybrid technology and long-distance racing formats. Itâs clear that the brandâs expertise in engineering, aerodynamics, and performance will be put to good use in these high-stakes races, where endurance, strategy and technology are key.
The New Hypercar
McLarenâs weapon of choice for this endurance mission is a purpose-built hypercar, developed by the brandâs racing arm. While details remain under wraps, the car will adhere to the new regulations in the Hypercar class of the World Endurance Championship, which sees manufacturers developing ultra-high-performance hybrid vehicles capable of racing for hours on end.
The McLaren hypercar will combine cutting-edge hybrid technology with the brandâs signature lightweight chassis, aerodynamic precision, and blistering speed. Early teasers suggest a car that will push the boundaries of whatâs possible in endurance racing while staying true to McLarenâs performance-driven ethos.
Aiming for Le Mans
With McLarenâs established prowess in motorsport, the Le Mans 24 Hours will be the jewel in the crown of their endurance racing ambitions. The iconic race, which has seen some of the greatest moments in motorsport history, will be a crucial testing ground for McLarenâs new hypercar. Their aim? To challenge the established heavyweights in the sport and show that British innovation is just as potent in endurance as it is in Formula 1.
McLarenâs CEO, Zak Brown, has expressed excitement about the project, calling it âan exciting and important stepâ for the brand. âEndurance racing provides an incredible platform to push the limits of technology and innovation,â Brown said, âand weâre ready to take on the worldâs best in this exciting new chapter.â
The Road Ahead
As McLaren gears up for its debut in the 2027 World Endurance Championship season, the team is focused on building a car that is as formidable as it is thrilling. Their move into endurance racing marks the next logical evolution in McLarenâs motorsport journey, one that will continue to blend performance, innovation, and passion.
The countdown to McLarenâs return to endurance racing has begun, and fans worldwide are waiting to see if the British icon can once again conquer the track â this time in one of motorsportâs most demanding arenas.

From Liberty Walk madness to million-pound classics, Landoâs car collection is as fast, fun and fascinating as the man himself.
For most 24-year-olds, owning a half-decent hot hatch is enough of a flex. But if youâre Lando Norris â McLarenâs F1 superstar with a cheeky grin and a soft spot for speed â your idea of a âweekend carâ looks very different. Over the past few years, Landoâs built a garage that reads like the ultimate petrolhead fantasy: modern supercars, retro legends, wild one-offs and the odd daily runabout thrown in for good measure.
With millions of fans watching on Instagram, YouTube and Twitch, his collection has gone from private passion to public fascination â and itâs only getting bigger.
â
Supercar Royalty
Letâs start at the top: Lando owns two of the most revered cars ever made â the Ferrari F40 and the Porsche Carrera GT. These are poster cars for an entire generation, known for their rawness, rarity and near-mythical status among collectors.
The F40, with its twin-turbo V8 and no-nonsense â80s aggression, is pure analogue drama. Meanwhile, the Carrera GT â often hailed as the last true driverâs supercar â is powered by a shrieking V10 that started life in a Le Mans prototype. For a driver like Lando, who grew up dreaming of these cars, theyâre more than just investments â theyâre icons.
And it doesnât stop there. A Lamborghini Miura, widely considered the worldâs first supercar, also sits in his fleet. Finished in a classic gold over tan, itâs a rolling piece of Italian art and a testament to Landoâs appreciation for the golden era of car design.
Oh, and did we mention the Shelby Cobra? Because yes, he has one of those too â a 1960s American brute with the stance of a pit bull and the soundtrack of thunder. Itâs not subtle, but itâs very, very cool.
The Liberty Walk Era
For modern flair, Landoâs love of Japanese tuning culture has made headlines â especially his Liberty Walk Nissan GT-R, both of which has set social media on fire. Wide arches, aggressive aero, and wild liveries? Absolutely. This car is a statement in every sense â unapologetically bold and undeniably fun.
Heâs also owned a 720S Spider and currently rocks a 765LT wrapped in satin gold, often seen tearing around Woking or parked at McLaren HQ. Itâs the most âLandoâ car imaginable: fast, flash, and a bit cheeky.
â
Daily Drivers Done Right
Not everything in the Norris garage is bonkers. Heâs got a Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge for when he fancies something smooth and silent, a Land Rover Defender 110 for the countryside escape, and a Golf GTI Clubsport â a nod to his early days and every UK car nutâs first love.
But perhaps the most unexpected gem? A humble Fiat 500, his weapon of choice around Monaco. Perfect for tight parking, short hops to the harbour, and flying under the radar â or trying to.
â
Just Getting Started
From million-pound classics to tuner specials and everyday runabouts, Landoâs collection is more than a flex â itâs a reflection of his personality: passionate, playful, and proudly petrol-powered. Whether heâs storming Eau Rouge or cruising through Monte Carlo in a Cinquecento, Lando Norris lives and breathes cars.
And with his F1 career on a sharp upward trajectory, expect the collection to grow, evolve, and surprise us all over again. Because if thereâs one thing we know for sure â heâs only just getting warmed up.

âCelebrating five decades of small car greatness
Back in 1975, Abba ruled the charts, flares were flapping in the breeze, and Volkswagen quietly introduced a little car that would go on to become one of Europeâs best-loved runabouts â the Polo.
Now, in 2025, that humble hatchback turns 50. And while it may not shout about it like some of its flashier siblings, the Polo has been quietly smashing it for half a century.
Born as a no-nonsense, compact city car, the Polo grew up fast. It didnât take long before sporty GTs, plush interiors and clever tech found their way into the mix. Itâs been a studentâs first car, a commuterâs best mate, and â in GTI form â a pocket rocket for those who like their thrills with a sensible badge.
More Than Just a Small Car
Across six generations, the Polo has managed to be everything to everyone â a kind of automotive Swiss army knife. Need something easy to park? Polo. Fancy a reliable motorway runabout? Polo. Want something thatâs fun but wonât scare the insurance company? You guessed it: Polo.
Itâs also been surprisingly good at racing. Yep, Volkswagen took it rallying, and it did rather well â further proof that you should never underestimate the quiet ones.
A Modern Classic
Todayâs Polo is bigger, smarter and more refined than anyone in the â70s couldâve predicted. Itâs packed with tech, stuffed with safety features, and still has that same understated charm thatâs won it fans from Aberdeen to Athens.
And while Volkswagen hasnât confirmed any big golden jubilee parties just yet, hereâs hoping they give this small car a proper big birthday bash. After all, not many cars can say theyâve been around for 50 years and are still going strong.

Bentleyâs not messing about â theyâve just doubled down on their high-performance plug-in hybrid lineup. The fourth-generation Continental GT, GT Convertible, and Flying Spur have welcomed a fresh wave of electrified muscle, this time in the form of a new V8-powered High Performance Hybrid. With a rather punchy 680 PS and 930 Nm of torque, this new powertrain sits just behind the barnstorming Ultra Performance Hybrid found in the Speed models.
That means Bentleyâs luxury cruisers now offer two flavours of electrified oomph, making the entire Continental and Flying Spur range V8 hybrid-only â a quiet (well, not really) revolution in motion.
And just to add a little more flair, each model now comes in three distinct versions, giving drivers a pick of performance, pampering, or a bit of both. Whichever you choose, all the new variants outpace the last-gen GT Speed. Yes, even the ârelaxedâ ones.
â
Quick on the Uptake
The new Continental GT doesnât just sip less fuel â it sprints. 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds is seriously quick, especially when you remember this thing has massage seats and more wood veneer than a stately home. Even the GT Convertible keeps pace, only a blink slower to 60.
Electric-only range is pretty impressive too â 53 miles for the GT, 51 for the GTC â which means you can pop to the shops, glide through the city centre or roll into a zero-emissions zone in near silence, if thatâs your thing.
Azure: For Those Who Prefer the Quiet Life
Want all the luxury with a little more calm and comfort? The Azure versions have you covered. Think wellness seating, 3D quilting that looks like it belongs on a Savile Row suit, and all the ambient lighting you could want. Thereâs even a neck warmer in the convertible, so you can drop the top in December and still feel like youâre in a spa.
And yes, the new grille is shinier than ever â all black gloss and chrome vanes, if youâre keeping score.
â
Flying Spur: The Family Express
If you need four doors, the Flying Spur brings everything the GT has â power, polish, plushness â and adds a proper back seat. Itâs still blisteringly quick (3.8 seconds to 60 mph, if you must know) but doesnât forget to waft. Even at full chat, the Flying Spur keeps things smooth, refined, and eerily serene.
Go for the Azure and you get Bentleyâs full wellness suite in all four outer seats â including massage functions and temperature controls â ideal for avoiding any mid-trip grumpiness from the passengers.
â
The Final Word
With the addition of the High Performance Hybrid, Bentleyâs daily supercar family is now complete. Whether youâre all about that effortless speed, seeking top-down glamour, or want to ferry five adults across a continent in supreme comfort, thereâs a Bentley that fits the bill. And thanks to a buffet of options, trims and bespoke finishes, you can make yours as subtle or as showy as you like.
Has hybrid power ever looked â or sounded â Â this good?

April Foolsâ Day is the one day of the year when car manufacturers throw logic out of the window and let their imaginations run wild. From ridiculous new âfeaturesâ to completely bonkers concept cars, this yearâs automotive pranks were as hilarious as ever. Here are the top five that had us doing a double take.
Volkswagen decided to play on nostalgia by unveiling the ID.3 Harlequin Edition â a tribute to the delightfully wacky Polo Harlequin from the 1990s. But in true 2025 fashion, they claimed this new model came with âelectroluminescent smart paint,â allowing each body panel to light up and change colour at will.
According to VWâs âpress release,â drivers could sync their paint scheme to their favourite music, making the car pulse in time to the beat. Even better, the car was said to feature a built-in ChatGPT assistant that could automatically change colours based on the driverâs mood. Feeling blue? The car obliges. Feeling fiery? Expect a sizzling red. Of course, the configurator page sent eager customers to a special message revealing the joke â but not before a few people tried to place an order.
BMW took the phrase âhands-on cleaningâ to a whole new level with their âCar Wash Suitâ â a futuristic-looking onesie designed to let owners wash their cars simply by⌠dancing around them. The suit, inspired by traditional car wash rollers, was showcased in a brilliantly over-the-top video featuring professional dancers twirling their way to a spotless finish.
The âhigh-techâ cleaning fibres were supposedly made from an âauto-active microfibre weaveâ that would absorb dirt while repelling water, meaning owners could clean their pride and joy just by giving it a good shimmy. As if that wasnât enough, BMW even claimed the suit was compatible with their heated seat technology, ensuring you stayed warm while scrubbing your bonnet with your elbows. If only this were real.
In a bid to bridge the gap between car care and self-care, Auto Glym announced their new âCar-to-Skinâ skincare range. The premium car care brand claimed to have developed a revolutionary product line that used their legendary paint-protecting formulas to give human skin the same showroom shine as a freshly waxed bonnet.
The range included âDiamond-Gleam Moisturiser,â which promised hydrophobic protection against rain and sweat, and âSuper Resin Face Polishâ for an unbeatable glow. Their pièce de rĂŠsistance? A tyre-shine-inspired leg serum for a deep, long-lasting tan. Auto Glym even joked about a âNew Car Scentâ cologne, ensuring you could smell as fresh as a just-detailed interior. If only keeping skin flawless was as easy as waxing a car!
Honda got tails wagging with their announcement of PAW-S, a revolutionary system designed to give your furry friends control over your car. Using a smart collar tag, PAW-S promised to let dogs open the boot at will, adjust the climate control to their liking, and even choose their own in-car playlist (we assume âWho Let the Dogs Outâ would be a favourite).
The press release claimed the system would soon be adapted for a range of animals, including cats, rabbits, and â for some reason â pygmy goats. While dog owners were left imagining the chaos of their pooch adjusting the seat warmers mid-drive, the idea of a goat changing the radio station had everyone in stitches.
Not to be outdone in the pet department, Mercedes-Benz introduced MBUX Bark Assist â a supposed update to their infotainment system that could âtranslateâ a dogâs bark into real commands.
The idea was that pups could use specific barks to activate different functions: a happy bark would open the sunroof, an excited yap would play their favourite song, and a low grumble could adjust the seat to their ideal lounging position. The brand even teased a future âCat Mode,â promising a silent-but-judgmental touch interface for feline passengers. Given how much some people spoil their pets, we wouldnât be surprised if someone actually wanted this feature.
Every year, manufacturers find new ways to poke fun at themselves and the industry, and 2025 was no exception. While we wonât be seeing these features at our local dealerships any time soon, they certainly brought a smile to our faces. And who knows? Maybe one day, the autonomous toilet or dog-activated boot release will go from joke to reality. Stranger things have happened in the world of motoring!

In 1995, against a backdrop of financial uncertainty, a new owner in the form of BMW and a nation that was recovering from recession, Rover Group made MG fans very happy.
For the first time since the closure of the Abingdon factory some 14 years previously, the MG sports car was back. It mattered not a jot that the resurgent MGF was constructed largely of parts bin components, nor that it was assembled in Longbridge rather than MGâs spiritual home, for here was an affordable, cute, two-seater roadster that was created in the image of the MGs of the past, right down to sharing its powertrain and underpinnings with other cars in the companyâs stable.
The design was actually very clever. Based on two Rover Metro front subframes, it used interlinked Hydragas suspension and a selection of switches and buttons that were instantly familiar to anyone who owned one of Roverâs other cars - the column stalks were from a 200, the heater vents from a Metro and the electric window switches were from the 800.
But the car was neatly styled - led by Gerry McGovern, who went on to become head of design at Jaguar Land Rover - and used a new 1.8-litre version of the K-Series engine found in the Rover 200/400, but developing 118bhp. There was a new 142bhp VVC engine, too.
In 1999, Rover Group launched a very special F to celebrate the MG brandâs 75th anniversary. The 75th LE came in three colours - Mulberry Red, Anthracite (a very dark bluey-black) and Platinum Silver, each with a âGrenadineâ interior that later went on to be offered as a premium option. All had leather trim and a numbered badge. A total of 2,000 were made, each with an individually numbered certificate.
This one is number 1,740 â a September 1999 Anthracite model with a substantial history file, and being offered for sale fully prepared and with a new head gasket courtesy of one of the UKâs best-known modern classic MG specialists. Itâs a lovely thing.

Imagine pulling into a charging station, plugging in your electric car, and grabbing a coffeeâonly to find that by the time youâve taken your first sip, your car is fully charged and ready to go. Sounds like science fiction? Not for long!
Chinese car giant BYD has announced the rollout of a staggering 4,000 ultra-powerful âmegawatt flash-chargersâ in China, capable of delivering around 250 miles of range in just five minutes. Thatâs over four times faster than Teslaâs Superchargers and practically as quick as refuelling a petrol car.
But while BYDâs superchargers may not be heading to the UK just yet, there are big plans for similar high-power chargers hereâespecially for HGVs. The problem? Getting a grid connection for these monster chargers can take months, even years, putting major projects on hold.
Enter AI-powered technology from CrowdCharge. This game-changing innovation creates a âdigital twinâ of a new charging site before anything is installed, helping planners optimise energy use, reduce grid upgrade costs, and even unlock new revenue streams. In short, it speeds up installation, cuts costs, and lowers emissionsâwin, win, win!
According to Mike Potter, CEO of CrowdCharge, âMegawatt chargers could revolutionise EV charging, but grid delays are a major issue. Our AI technology helps speed up installations, reduce costs, and unlock new energy opportunities.â
So, while the UKâs ultra-rapid charging revolution may have been slow off the line, thanks to AI, itâs about to pick up serious speed. Buckle up!

A Thrilling Start to the 2025 Formula 1 Season
The 2025 Formula 1 season has kicked off with exhilarating races, unexpected twists, and a fair share of drama, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
Chinese Grand Prix: Triumph and Tribulation
The recent Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai was a rollercoaster of emotions for teams and fans alike. Lewis Hamilton, in his debut season with Ferrari, showcased his enduring prowess by clinching victory in the sprint race. Starting from pole position, he led the pack, finishing a notable 6.889 seconds ahead of McLarenâs Oscar Piastri, with Red Bullâs Max Verstappen securing third place. Â
However, the main race brought unforeseen challenges. Both Ferrari drivers, Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, faced disqualification post-race. Leclercâs car was found to be under the minimum weight, while Hamiltonâs vehicle exhibited excessive skid block wear, breaching technical regulations. These infractions led to their exclusion from the final standings, a significant blow to Ferrariâs campaign. Â
Current Standings: A Tight Race
As the dust settles from the initial races, the championship standings are shaping up to promise a fiercely competitive season. While specific points and positions are in flux due to recent disqualifications, teams like McLaren and Mercedes are capitalizing on every opportunity, with drivers such as Oscar Piastri and George Russell delivering consistent performances.
Looking Ahead: Anticipation Builds
With the season still in its early stages, fans can look forward to more high-octane action, strategic battles, and perhaps a few more surprises. The resilience of teams and drivers will be tested as they navigate the challenges ahead, all vying for the coveted championship title.
Stay tuned for more updates as the 2025 Formula 1 season unfolds, bringing speed, strategy, and spectacle to racing enthusiasts worldwide.

Mention Cosworth in the context of a 1980s sports saloon, and most people will think of Ford. But another manufacturer was heavily involved in motorsport at the time and also relied on the British tuning companyâs engine-building expertise.
That company was Mercedes-Benz, which produced Cosworth-powered versions of its 190E compact executive car for homologation purposes. The 190E 2.3-16 â and later the 2.5-16 â are spoken of in hushed tones today. These are genuine collectorsâ cars, steeped in race-derived history and eagerly sought after â so much so that Ayrton Senna had one and reportedly loved it; he certainly kept it for a while.
This one is more special than most. Itâs an early 2.5, dating from 1989, featuring stronger timing chains and greater reliability, not to mention the improved performance that later models offered.
Itâs a super-rare and hugely collectable car, but donât expect this one to be something you can jump in and drive away. It needs a cosmetic restoration, most notably to the exterior, but itâs reported to be in running order. The gloriously spartan interior (Mercedes was always a bit tight back then, even with its flagship models) is complete and seemingly in very good condition.
Bring it back to its former glory, and it could be worth more than double the asking price of ÂŁ15,000 â which seems quite cheap when you consider that a barn-find Ford Sierra Cosworth sold for six figures last year. And the 190E is arguably the better carâŚ

F1 Sprint weekends are back for 2025, and guess what? The format has changed again! If youâre feeling a bit lost, donât worryâweâve got you covered with this quick, no-nonsense guide to how things will work at this weekendâs Chinese Grand Prix.
Friday â The Usual (Sort of)
- The weekend kicks off with one practice session (so teams have limited time to perfect their setups).
- Then, we go straight into Qualifying for Sundayâs Grand Prix! Thatâs rightâFridayâs qualifying session sets the grid for the big race, not the Sprint.
Saturday â Itâs All About the Sprint
- First up, we have Sprint Qualifying (SQ), which is shorter and sharper than regular qualifying:
- SQ1 (12 mins) â All 20 drivers, the slowest 5 are eliminated. â
- SQ2 (10 mins) â 15 drivers battle it out, another 5 get dropped.
- SQ3 (8 mins) â The top 10 fight for pole!
- The Sprint Race then takes place in the afternoonâa 100km dash with no pit stops unless absolutely necessary.
- Points are up for grabs! The top 8 finishers score, with P1 getting 8 points, down to P8 getting 1.
Sunday â The Big One
- The Chinese Grand Prix runs as usual, using the grid set in Fridayâs qualifying.
- The Sprint doesnât affect the main raceâs starting order, so drivers can go all-out in both events!
Why Should You Care?
More racing, more unpredictability, and more action-packed battles! The Sprint means drivers have to risk it all TWICE in one weekendâand thatâs exactly what we love to see!
Current Standings Update
After a thrilling start to the season, Lando Norris leads the Driversâ Championship with 25 points, thanks to his victory at the Australian Grand Prix. McLaren and Mercedes are tied at the top of the Constructorsâ Championship, each with 27 points. Â
With the new Sprint format adding an extra layer of excitement, the Chinese Grand Prix promises to be a weekend full of high-speed drama.

Italians have a way of saying things. Scopino, for example, sounds exotic and exciting, but is actually the nationâs word for âtoilet brushâ. Â Quattroporte, meanwhile, means nothing more exciting thanâfour-doorâ, but conversely, how cool does it sound?
Â
Maseratiâs flagship saloon has the looks to go with its swish-sounding name, too. Whether itâs the original Frua and Vignale-styled saloon from 1963, or the very latest generation, there has never been an ugly Quattroporte â all of them curvaceous, lithe and meaningful. Itâs no coincidence, therefore, that the big Maserati is quoted by many as beingItalyâs Jaguar XJ â a beautiful luxury saloon car, and a national treasure.
This oneâs a fifth-generation car styled by Pininfarina, and it comes with the bragging rights of having a Ferrari V8 engine upfront â yeti tâs less than ÂŁ9,000. Itâs an awful lot of car before you consider the prancing horse connections, while it also has one of the most wonderful interiors of any car ever made.
Â
Inside, it exudes an atmosphere of handcrafted luxury andItalianate flair. In this case with stunning, unusual Oxblood leather and wood veneers, and an aura of sophistication that few, if any, can match. It might not be as opulent as a Bentley, nor as clinical as a Mercedes-Benz S-Class, but the Quattroporte has something that no other car can come close to mustering âas well as one of the coolest clocks youâll ever find on a carâs dashboard.
Â
Here, then, is your opportunity to get behind the wheel of a car that has the luxury of a Jaguar or Bentley, but with the heart of aFerrari. We can certainly get on board with that, even if it does consign you to a life of expensive maintenance and annoyingly sticky dashboard buttons. Itâs a small price to pay for something so agonisingly cool.

Petrolheads, brace yourselvesâHoonigan, the legendary name behind some of the most insane car builds, tyre-shredding stunts, and motorsport madness, has hit a massive speed bump. The company, originally founded by the late, great Ken Block, has officially filed for bankruptcy, citing a jaw-dropping $1.2 billion in debt.
From Burnouts to Bankruptcy
Hoonigan wasnât just a brandâit was a movement. It represented the pure thrill of sending it sideways, smoking tyres, and living life in the redline. From viral Gymkhana videos to building ridiculous project cars, the company had cemented itself as a pillar of the automotive enthusiast community. So, what went wrong?
The trouble started after Hoonigan (previously known as Wheel Pros LLC) underwent a major rebranding in late 2023. While the goal was to expand its grip on the performance parts industry, the company struggled to keep up with post-pandemic market shifts, rising interest rates, and a drop in demand. With finances spinning out of control, Hoonigan had no choice but to slam the brakes and file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Can Hoonigan Make a Comeback?
Despite the financial chaos, operations are still running, and the company insists that customers, suppliers, and employees wonât be left in the dust. CEO Vance Johnston remains optimistic, stating that a financial restructuring will give Hoonigan a fresh start with $570 million in new capital to help steer them back on track.
Backing this recovery is a plan supported by major lenders, meaning the companyâs assets and iconic branding wonât just disappear in a cloud of tyre smoke. By December 2024, Hoonigan emerged from bankruptcy with $1.2 billion in debt wiped out and a solid plan to regain traction.
The Road Ahead
Hoonigan has always been about pushing limits and making a comebackâwhether thatâs in racing, drifting, or now, business. With a leaner, more stable financial structure, the brand is set to continue its journey, hopefully delivering more tyre-shredding action in the future.
Will they pull off the ultimate comeback, or is this the final lap? Only timeâand maybe a few burnoutsâwill tell.

Rev up your engines, F1 fansâthe 2025 Formula 1 season is here, and itâs shaping up to be an absolute thriller! With fresh rivalries, game-changing rule tweaks, and some exciting new faces on the grid, this year promises high-speed drama from lights out in Melbourne!
New Cars, New Battles!
The teams have spent the winter break tweaking, testing, and (letâs be honest) probably spying on each otherâs designs to squeeze out every last bit of performance. Expect sleeker, faster cars with improved aerodynamics and new sustainable fuel regulations aimed at making F1 greener without slowing it down. (Sorry, fuel-saving hatersâmore strategy incoming!)
Driver Shake-Ups!
Silly season was WILD last year! Some big moves mean weâve got a reshuffled gridârookies hungry to prove themselves, seasoned veterans out for redemption, and reigning champion Max Verstappen aiming to defend his title. Seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton is still chasing his eighth, while Lando Norris and George Russell will be desperate to mount a serious title challenge.
Tracks & Surprises!
The calendar is packed with 24 adrenaline-fuelled races, including fan-favourites like Silverstone and Monaco, with the season opener retruning to Melbourne, Australia! Oh, and letâs not forget the possibility of chaotic weather, last-lap drama, and the occasional rogue seagull interfering with a hot lap.
Whoâs Got the Edge?
Pre-season testing gave us some hints, but as always, the first race will truly reveal whoâs hot and whoâs⌠well, struggling. Mercedes claim theyâve finally unlocked the pace to challenge Red Bull, Ferrari are looking sharper than ever, and McLarenâs late-2024 form suggests they could be serious contenders. Will we see a proper three-way title fight? F1 is unpredictable, and thatâs why we love it!
The first practice sessions in Melbourne have already given us a taste of whatâs to come. In FP1, McLarenâs Lando Norris topped the timesheets, followed by Williamsâ Carlos Sainz and Ferrariâs Charles Leclerc. FP2 saw Leclerc setting the fastest lap, with McLarenâs Oscar Piastri and Norris close behind. Notably, Lewis Hamilton improved to fifth in FP2 after a 12th-place finish in FP1, while reigning champion Max Verstappen was seventh. Rookies like Oliver Bearman faced challenges, with Bearman damaging his Haas in FP1.
â
Buckle Up!
The lights are about to go out, and 2025 is already feeling like a season for the history books. So grab your race snacks, pick your favourite driver, and prepare for another year of thrills, heartbreaks, and champagne celebrations! đđž
Whoâs your bet for the title? Letâs hear your predictions!

Aston Martinâs cutting-edge hypercar, the Valkyrie, has made a thrilling global race debut at the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener, the Qatar 1812km. Marking a historic moment in motorsport, the British-built beast crossed the finish line after a gruelling 10-hour endurance battle, showing immense promise in its first-ever competitive outing.
The Aston Martin THOR Teamâs #009 Valkyrie, piloted by endurance racing legends Marco Sørensen, Alex Riberas, and Roman De Angelis, completed an impressive 295 laps to secure 17th place. Despite facing a steep learning curve, the team showcased the hypercarâs raw speed and potential, leaving fans eager to see how it evolves throughout the season.
The Valkyrie is the only road-born hypercar to compete in both the WEC and the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. Unlike its competitors, it stays true to its production DNA, featuring a modified 6.5-litre Cosworth V12 engine that roars to 11,000rpm, producing over 1000bhp in standard form (regulated to 680bhp for competition). This fusion of road and race technology makes it a unique challenger on the global stage.
âWe knew this was going to be a learning weekend,â said Aston Martinâs Head of Endurance, Adam Carter. âThere were inevitable teething issues, but the Valkyrieâs race pace was hugely encouraging. Weâve gathered vital data, and weâre confident this car will be a serious contender as the season progresses.â
The #009 car held its own in the hypercar field, while the #007 Valkyrie, driven by British stars Tom Gamble, Ross Gunn, and Harry Tincknell, showed competitive speed before an early retirement due to a transmission issue. Both cars proved they could match front-running lap times, reinforcing Aston Martinâs belief that they have a future championship contender on their hands.
Just weeks before this thrilling debut, The British Motor Show proudly showcased the Aston Martin Valkyrie, giving fans an exclusive first look at this groundbreaking hypercar. Now, after its first endurance challenge, the Valkyrie has taken its place in the worldâs premier motorsport arenas, proving itâs not just a showstopperâitâs a serious competitor.
With valuable lessons learned in Qatar, the Aston Martin THOR Team is now setting its sights on the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut at Sebring in just two weeks. The road to endurance racing glory has only just begun!

Niche cars come in all shapes and sizes, but they donât come much more obscure than this weekâs car of the week.
Â
The Abarth 695 Riva Rivale is a luxury powerboat-themed hardcore hot hatchback. Yes, you read that correctly â what else was it going to be?
Â
Built as a tie-in with the billionairesâ favourite boat-maker, the Riva Rivale was a 2018-only special edition of which only 350 were constructed for the UK â 175 hatchbacks and 175 convertibles. If you were prepared to splash out an extra ÂŁ2,000 (and not a lot of people were), you could even have the dashboard finished in the same polished wood as the speedboat deck.
Â
Equipped with unique seats, mats and materials finished in a shade of blue normally reserved for Riva boats, and finished in a smart two-tone blue and grey colour scheme to go with it, the Rivale was one of the more unusual Abarths and is guaranteed to become one of the most collectable in the future, not least because itâs based on the high performance 695 model with 178bhp and terrific point-and-squirt performance, as well as that micro-luxurious leather-clad cabin.
This one is a cabriolet, which means you can retract the roof â just like in a powerboat âand listen to the cheeky pops and bangs from its Akrapovic sports-tuned exhaust without feeling all-at-sea.
Â
Itâs not just about getting noticed, though, as the Rivale is a proper pocket rocket. 0-60mph in 6.7seconds is pretty rapid for whatâs essentially a Fiat 500 on steroids, while upgraded Brembo vented discs mean it can stop and turn more quickly than a powerboat, too.

ÂŁ20k sounds quite a lot for a Fiat 500 â but itâs cheap-as-chips for a RivaâŚ

Itâs that time of year againâFormula 1 testing is underway, and the anticipation for the new season is off the charts. After last weekâs car launches, where teams showcased their latest designs, bold liveries, and confident predictions, now comes the real test: whoâs got the pace to back it up?
Testing runs from 26th to 28th February at the Bahrain International Circuit, giving teams just three days to fine-tune their machines before the season opener on 16th March in Australia. Every lap counts, and with limited pre-season testing, thereâs no room for major mistakes.
The first sessions have already provided plenty to talk about. On the opening day, Lando Norris set the benchmark for McLaren with a fastest lap of 1:30.430. Â George Russell was hot on his heels for Mercedes, clocking in at 1:30.587, while reigning champion Max Verstappen posted a time of 1:30.674 for Red Bull. Â
Ferrari fans, take a deep breathâthere are early signs of promise. Charles Leclerc recorded a time of 1:30.878, placing him fourth on the timesheets. Â Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton, now donning the iconic red, completed over 70 trouble-free laps, focusing on understanding his new car. Â
Mercedesâ rookie, Andrea Kimi Antonelli, impressed by topping the morning session on the first day and completing 78 laps, showcasing both speed and reliability. Â
McLaren and Aston Martin are also ones to watch. Both teams finished last season on a high, and with fresh upgrades, they could spice up the battle for podiums. Meanwhile, the midfield remains a fascinating puzzle, with Alpine, Williams, and Racing Bulls (formerly AlphaTauri) all looking for an edge.
With just a few days of testing left before the lights go out in Australia on 16th March, the pecking order is still uncertain. But one thingâs for sureâ2025 is shaping up to be a thriller. Strap in, F1 fans, the new season is just around the corner!

-Â The new Volvo ES90 is powered by 800-volt technology, helping to create a car that goes farther and charges faster than any electric Volvo before
-Â The ES90 can add up to 300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes of charging and offers a driving range of up to 700 kilometres
- Â The ES90 also brings new progress in efficiency and sustainability, thanks to recycled and natural materials, and more
How about a new, fully electric Volvo car that can go just that little bit farther with less charging time? The upcoming Volvo ES90 does exactly that, thanks to our new 800V technology, which makes its debut in our latest fully electric model.
The benefits of an 800-volt electric system are numerous: your battery gets charged faster, your electric car gets an improved overall performance, and the electric system is more efficient compared with a 400-volt system.
Combine this with completely new battery management software and hardware, as well as a progressive design, and you get a car that goes farther and charges faster than any electric Volvo before. The ES90 can add 300 kilometres of range in just 10 minutes at 350kW fast-charging stations and offers a driving range of up to 700 kilometres under the WLTP testing cycle.
The ES90 is designed to be a premium Volvo car that gives you quality time with the people you love, providing you with peace of mind and balance, as well as a sense of convenience and control. A state-of-the-art electric system that enables faster charging and longer range is key to achieving that ambition. No matter where or how far your trip goes, the ES90 is designed to get you there reliably and comfortably.
âOur 800V technology marks another significant technological upgrade for our customers as we move towards full electrification,â says Anders Bell, our Chief Engineering and Technology Officer. âIt makes our electric cars even more efficient, helps you charge your electric Volvo faster and go farther on a single charge.â
800-volt gives you more of everything
To create our new 800-volt system, every component in the electric system has been upgraded to be compatible with 800 volts, including the battery cells, e-motors, inverter, charging as well as the climate and thermal systems. That creates benefits in terms of charging, efficiency and performance.
A higher-voltage system means that it can deliver more power (in kilowatts, or kW) and range with the same current as a 400-volt system. This approach generates less heat, meaning your battery can be charged faster up to 350kW without overloading the electric system.
Our 800-volt system also contains lighter e-motors and other components, which reduces the carâs overall weight. This also improves the systemâs efficiency, while boosting the carâs acceleration and driving range.
The brand-new in-house-developed battery management software creates a more robust charging experience. Compared to other electric Volvo cars, our new software cuts the time it takes to charge your ES90 from 10 to 80 per cent by as much as 30 per cent, down to 20 minutes. This is partly thanks to the integration of adaptive charging software from Breathe Battery Technologies, a company we invested in last year via the Volvo Cars Tech Fund, our corporate venture capital arm.
Sustainability in focus
However, battery technology is not the only area in which the ES90 is a star performer. It also helps us make progress in other sustainability-related areas. For example, the ES90 is packed with recycled and natural materials that contribute to lower CO2 emissions in production. 29 per cent of all aluminium and 18 per cent of all steel used in the ES90 is recycled, while the ES90 also contains 16 per cent recycled polymers and bio-based materials. The wood panels inside the ES90 are made from FSC-certified wood.
The ES90 also comes with our battery passport. Based on blockchain technology, this allows us to track raw materials. The passport tells you where the lithium, cobalt, nickel and graphite used in the battery originate from. It also highlights the CO2 footprint of the full battery pack and other relevant information. For customers, this provides transparency about how we source raw battery material in a responsible way.
The ES90 will be revealed to the world on 5 March. Follow the livestream via es90event.volvocars.com
The small print
- The WLTP driving range of up to 700km translates to 740km under the CLTC driving cycle in China and applies to the all-wheel-drive variants with twin motors and 106kWh battery.
- Charging times can vary and depend on various factors such as outdoor temperature, battery condition and car condition. Our charging time was based on testing at 350kW charging facilities.

Vauxhall isnât the first name that springs to mind when you think of a sports car manufacturer, but the VX220 was created as a result of synergy between two makers with specific needs.
Â
The Vauxhall brand needed an injection of pizazz at exactly the same time as Lotus desperately needed some money, as in 1999, the first-generation Elise was about to be pensioned off for not meeting crash safety legislation.
Â
Lotus didnât have the funds to re-engineer the car to stay in production â and while it had the engineering expertise to get around it, its piggy bank was empty.Â
Â
An empty piggy bank was often overlooked by General Motors, leading to it filing for bankruptcy protection in 2008. But way before that, a deal was brokered between GMâs UK engineering team and the guys at Hethel, which would see Lotus meet its engineering challenges head-on (excuse the pun) if it allowed the General to share the new carâs architecture and create a sports car of its own.Â
The Vauxhall VX220, or Opel Speedster as it became known in the rest of Europe, was an Elise in all but appearance, other than under the mid-mounted engine cover. While the Lotus used a Toyota engine for its second generation, GM used the 2.2-litre direct injection unit most usually found in the likes of the Vectra and Zafira, but soon replaced it with a much punchier 2.0-litre turbo unit, as found in the Astra VXR.
Â
Already collectable and on the up thanks to their rarity, VX220s are guaranteed future classics and make a great investment as well as being terrific cars to drive.
Â
This one is all the money at a shade under ÂŁ20k, but itâs in one of the best colours â Arden Blue â and has an impeccable history file. Yet itâs still cheaper (and arguably better) than the equivalent Lotus would be with a similar pedigree. Freshly serviced and with a new cam belt, itâs a fantastic piece of fun as the days start to get that little bit longer and the sun puts in a long-overdue appearance.

Renault Group is making its Fireman Access system freely available to the global automotive industry, reinforcing its commitment to road safety. Developed in collaboration with fire services, this patented innovation allows emergency crews to extinguish electric vehicle (EV) battery fires in minutes rather than hoursâdrastically reducing damage, risk, and water usage.
Traditionally, EV battery fires require hours of firefighting and thousands of litres of water to control. Fireman Access solves this by integrating a specially designed adhesive disc into the battery casing. In normal use, this remains sealed, but in the event of a fire, a powerful jet of water can dislodge it, allowing direct cooling of the battery cells. This method cuts down intervention time and enables fire crews to return to duty far quicker.
Renault Group has fitted Fireman Access to all its electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, spanning Renault, Dacia, Alpine, and Mobilize brands. Now, the company is offering this life-saving innovation to other car manufacturers and suppliers via a free licensing scheme. In return, those who adopt the technology agree to share any improvements with the industryâensuring continued advancements in safety.
Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, stated: âWhen it comes to safety, barriers must come down. By making Fireman Access freely available, weâre taking a major step forward in EV safety while supporting firefighters worldwide.â
This initiative aligns with Renaultâs Human First programme, which drives technological innovation to reduce accidents and improve post-crash rescue operations. Renault Group has been at the forefront of vehicle safety for over 50 years, with 600 engineers working on new safety solutions, over 2,000 patents filed since 1970, and a 15-year partnership with fire services.
Renault Groupâs commitment to road safety extends globally, with more than 5,000 firefighters trained across 19 countries. By sharing Fireman Access, Renault is setting a new standard in EV safety, ensuring better protection for both drivers and emergency responders.

When Mercedes-Benz replaced the R129SL in 2001, it brought the model bang up to date.
The new R230 model was not only sleek and stylish, but it also introduced the companyâs trademark electric folding hard top to the model, which had debuted four years earlier on the SLK.
The R230 SL set new standards for Mercedes-Benz in terms of dynamics and handling. The company was competing in Formula One in conjunction with McLaren, and the British company played a hand in helping develop the new sports car, which was dynamically leagues ahead of its R129 predecessor. Its suite of features included an advanced electronic system that worked with the ESP and body control systems to make it one of the finest handling cars on the road.
â
It was a strikingly handsome car but also a very expensive one. At launch, it was offered only as the 386bhp SL500, but at the end of 2001, Mercedes-Benz introduced a more affordable modelâ the SL 350, with a 3.7-litre V6 and 245bhp. Â
This 2005 example has covered less than 100,000 miles from new and, despite having passed through the hands of a few owners, appears to have been impeccably well maintained â making it a seriously tempting proposition at ÂŁ4,799.
You only have to look at the values of older SL's to see that it promises to be a sensible investment for the future, as well as a fine open-top tourer that, despite being 20 years old, is still ideal for everyday use.

Itâs hard to believe that more than a quarter of a century has passed since BMWâs âE46â generation of 3-Series first appeared, such is the modelâs elegant and timeless styling.
Â
But as the good examples become fewer and further between, the collector market for nice E46s is picking up. Great to look at, terrific to drive and impressively built, theyâre one of the last truly wonderful BMW compact models and are actively sought after in good condition.
Â
This one is a bit of a gem â not your average tired and weary E46, nor your most ordinary choice of colour. Itâs a Japanese import model in striking Dakar Yellow, which has covered just 26,000 miles from new.Itâs also the 330Ci, which M3 aside, was the pinnacle of the E46 line-up. TheM3 was faster and more expensive, but the 330Ci was classy and well-engineered.
It has been in the UK now for nine years and was most recently serviced less than 1,000 miles ago by a BMW main dealer, while itâs also supremely well-equipped, with Montana Beige leather interior, heated electric memory sports seats, bi-Xenon headlights, rear parking sensors, sat nav and automatic air conditioning â things that you might take for granted today, but which were the mark of a very well-appointed car back in 2002, when this E46was new.
Â
Under the bonnet, youâll find the most potent non-M version of the M52 six-cylinder engine, with 231bhp â enough for 0-60mph in 6.5 seconds and an electronically limited top speed of 155mph. Couple that to a supple ride and the E46âs trademark fantastic steering, and you end up with a car thatâs truly fantastic to drive.
Â
At ÂŁ12,995, itâs all the money for an E46 of any shape or form, but you canât tell us you donât want it. We know you do â because itâs absolutely stunning.

Despite some of the negative reports recently, the electric vehicle (EV) market in the UK has experienced significant growth, with nearly 382,000 new fully electric cars sold in 2024, accounting for 19.6% of all new car registrations. This represents a 21% increase from 2023.
Despite this progress, private consumer adoption remains modest, with only 10% of private buyers choosing EVs in 2024, however The British Motor Show believes this is about to change.
In a survey of visitors to the 2024 British Motor show, they asked customers what type of power they expected their next car to be. Â Over 22% reported that they expected their next purchase to be their very first electric car.
70% of visitors said that they expected to replace their car within the next 12 months which suggests that nearly a quarter of motorists who are currently driving ICE vehicles are expecting to make the change sooner rather than later.
An additional 40% of those asked said that they were undecided on what type of powertrain they would be buying, but were open to it being electric.
âThere will be more electric vehicles on show at the British Motor Show in 2025 than ever below and those customers who are thinking of making the move will be able to test the water with a test drive too. The show will also give those who feel less confident with the new technology the chance to find out more at the show by talking to and experiencing the brands directlyâ
The organisers are expecting over 100 new cars for the public to experience in 2025 and over 60,000 visitors through the doors of Farnborough International between August 15th-17th.Â
Guests of all ages can enjoy live stunt shows and thrilling displays, which add an adrenaline-pumping element to the event ensuring thereâs never a dull moment, plus driving experiences including under 17 driving lessons or test drives of some of the latest cars.

In the late 1980s Japanâs âboutiqueâ fashion movement saw are turn of Fifties flare to all areas of life from clothing to personal transport.
And to capitalise on the boutique movement, Nissan set up an internal project team called âPike Factoryâ to come up with cars that would fit in with the booming âold-newâ trend.
It went on to cause quite a stir by launching three new models that it referred to as âretro fashion carsâ, namely the utilitarian hatchback Pao, the S-Cargo delivery van and the Figaro â a two-seater sports car that was based on the platform of the K10 Micra, which looked like it had driven straight out of a Betty Boop cartoon.
The Figaro made its debut at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show and was an instant showstopper.
It was offered in just four colours, each said to represent a different season, and was originally projected to have a production run of just 8,000 cars, though demand was such that Nissan quickly adapted this to a total of 20,000. The car would only be sold in the Japanese Domestic Market(officially) and immediate demand was such that instead of selling the car conventionally through its dealers, the company instead held a ballot lottery, like entries for the London Marathon, with only one-in-five of those who putdown deposits actually âwinningâ a car.
The Figaro was essentially a coupe, but had a retractable roof much like that of the Citroen 2CV, while the interior was finished in ivory white, with a retro fascia to match the old-school exterior and cream full leather interior. It was a car as a piece of art, with delicate chrome details and minor controls all stylised to echo the look of a traditional classic car. Nissan even enrolled the help of an Austin-Healey specialist to help it design the Figaroâs radiator grille.
Figaro production, as per the original plan, lasted just two years, with the cars assembled for Nissan by Takata Kogyo, an external coach builder. For the first few years they changed hands for strong money, the few that did escape Japan ending up in the hands of collectors when new.
But fashion is fickle - especially in Japan - and by the late 1990s boutique retro was too retro for the nationâs new dynamic and thrusting tastes, leading to a flood of Japanese imports arriving in the UK. The Figaro was attainable at last. Indeed, almost a quarter of the 20,000 Figaros Nissan made found their way here during a flurry of imports in the late Nineties and early 2000s, making it more common in the UK than quite a few domestic classics.
This one, in Winter Black, has been in the UK since 2007 and has covered 190,000km â or about 120,000 miles. Thatâs nothing for the famously robust Nissan Micra running gear that sits beneath its retro bodywork. Itâs offered for sale at a dealership in Manchester, with an MOT until May 2025 and at a deeply tempting ÂŁ3,195 â a small price to pay for a car with such levels of exclusivity. If you want something thatâs quirky, bound to get you noticed and will fit right in at a classic car show despite being quite modern underneath, itâs hard to beat.

Would you spend six figures on a Porsche you canât drive? Thatâs exactly what just happened, as a 1:1 scale wireframe sculpture of the legendary Porsche 934 sold at auction for an eye-watering ÂŁ201,000. Thatâs three times the price of a real, road-going 911 Turbo from the same era.
This isnât just any sculpture, though. Created by London-based artist Benedict Radcliffe, itâs a stunning tubular wireframe masterpiece, perfectly capturing the essence of the Porsche 934âmost famous for its bright orange Jägermeister racing livery. Having been displayed around the world, including at Milan Design Week and even by Porsche China, itâs now heading to a private collector in Asia.
The Numbers Behind the Sale
⢠218 bids placed in just seven days
⢠Over 6,000 views on the auction listing
⢠Final sale price: ÂŁ201,000 â more than triple the cost of a usable 930 Turbo
Why So Much for a Car That Doesnât Move?
Thereâs no engine, no gearbox, and no chance of taking it for a Sunday drive, but as this sale proves, automotive art is as desirable as the cars themselves. For collectors, this piece is as much a statement as it is a tribute to one of Porscheâs most iconic racers.
As interest in automotive sculptures, memorabilia, and rare collectorâs items continues to grow, it raises the question: would you rather have the keys to the real thing, or own a piece of art that captures the spirit of an icon? One thingâs for sureâthis Porsche will turn just as many heads, even without an engine.

Letâs be honestâwhen was the last time you actually read the Highway Code? If your answer is somewhere between âI skimmed it for my theory testâ and âWait, there were changes?â then youâre in good company. In fact, nearly half of drivers have no idea about the 2022 rule updates, despite them being in place for three years.
These changes werenât just a minor tweak to the wordingâthey introduced a whole new âhierarchy of road usersâ, designed to protect those most at risk: pedestrians, cyclists, horse riders, and motorcyclists. The idea? The bigger your vehicle, the more responsibility you have to keep others safe.
Sounds sensible, right? Except, three years on, the message clearly hasnât reached everyone. Thatâs a big problem when road safety figures show that in just one year:
đś 405 pedestrians were killed and 6,067 seriously injured.
đ´ 87 cyclists lost their lives, with 4,942 seriously injured.
đ 58 horses were killed, with 97 seriously injured in road incidents.
Thatâs a lot of lives changed forever. And a lot of accidents that could have been prevented.
So, what exactly changed? Hereâs your quick refresher on what you should already know (but probably donât):
đŚ Pedestrians Rule the Junctions â If someone is crossing or waiting to cross at a junction, you must give way. No more nudging forward hoping theyâll sprint across!
đ´ Cyclists Have Right of Way Too â Turning left or right? If a cyclist is going straight ahead, you must let them pass before making your move.
đ Overtaking Rules Are Stricter â When passing a cyclist at up to 30mph, leave at least 1.5 metres. If youâre going faster, give even more space.
đ Horse Riders Need Room â When passing a horse, slow right down to 10mph max and leave at least two metres of space. No last-minute revving, eitherâspooked horses and speeding cars are not a good mix.
đŞ The âDutch Reachâ Saves Cyclists â Instead of flinging your door open into the unknown, use your furthest hand to open it. This forces you to look over your shoulder firstâsaving cyclists from an unexpected collision with your door.
đ So, Why Donât People Know This?
Blame a lack of awareness. Unlike some rule changes, these didnât come with a flashy government campaign. There was no big TV advert, no viral hashtagâjust a quiet update that many people simply missed. And if half of drivers donât know, what does that mean for those who think they know but actually donât?
Confusion on the roads leads to hesitation, frustration, and even more dangerâwhich is exactly what these changes were meant to prevent.
Time to Brush Up!
So, consider this your friendly nudge to get up to speed with the rules (before you get caught out at a junction or worse, cause an accident). Whether youâre a daily commuter, weekend driver, or just an occasional road user, itâs on you to make sure youâre not part of the problem.
Because no one wants to be that driverâthe one who didnât get the memo. đđ¨

We all love a concept car, so how about an all electric off roading monster...
Get ready to be wowed because Audi has just unveiled something truly spectacular! Meet the Audi Q6 e-tron off road conceptâa bold, electrifying reinterpretation of the iconic quattro, designed to conquer new heights (literally) and redefine whatâs possible for electric vehicles. And yes, itâs as thrilling as it sounds!
This jaw-dropping prototype is built on Audiâs Premium Platform Electric (PPE), showcasing the incredible potential of this cutting-edge technology. Itâs powered by two electric motors delivering a combined output of 380 kW, and with newly designed portal axles, this beast can climb gradients of up to 100 percent. Talk about off-road domination!
What makes it stand out? How about a 160 mm (6.3 in) increase in ride height and a track thatâs 250 mm (9.8 in) wider? This isnât just a concept car; itâs a statement. As Audi CEO Gernot DĂśllner put it: âThe Q6 e-tron offroad concept is a highly emotive reinterpretation of quattro. Itâs a glimpse of the future, showing the incredible capabilities of our electric vehicle platform. This car is ready to claim new groundâon and off the road.â
The new portal axles are a game-changer, increasing torque at the wheels by a whopping 50 percent, enabling this powerhouse to tackle 45-degree gradients with ease. Sure, the top speed is capped at 175 km/h (108 mph)âbut for an off-roader designed to push the limits of terrain, thatâs more than enough. Itâs Vorsprung durch Technik in action, taking innovation to new extremes.
With a design born from the question, âHow can we create a highly emotive electric vehicle?â, the Q6 e-tron off road concept is packed with engineering brilliance. Its portal axles, integrated into the wheel hubs, amplify torque to an incredible 13,400 Nm (9,883 lb-ft). Every inch of this vehicle screams innovation, performance, and adventure.
The Q6 e-tron offroad concept will make its debut on February 1, 2025, at the F.A.T. Ice Race. Want to see it in action? Follow @Audi Sport on social media and prepare to be amazed. This isnât just the future of electric vehiclesâitâs Audiâs vision of adventure, redefined.

Youâve probably heard the claim: âRed cars are like magnets for traffic policeâ. Itâs one of those statements that sounds so plausible you might think twice before buying that shiny red convertible. But is it true, or just another automotive urban legend?
Letâs put this myth under the microscopeâŚ
This myth comes from an. unsubstantiated Urban myth originating in the 1980âs that Motorway police would play a version of snooker when stopping cars for speeding, competing to see who could get the biggest âbreakâ. Given that you need to pot a red before every colour in a snooker break, Â it was claimed that red cars were more likely to get stopped because of this. This is of course absolute nonsense !
The theory is that red cars, being bright and eye-catching, naturally stand out more on the road. Combine that with the psychological link between red and speed (think stop signs, fire engines, and Ferraris), and itâs easy to see why this idea has gained attention.
But the truth is: studies have shown that the colour of your car doesnât actually make you more likely to get pulled over. Traffic stops are influenced by behaviourâspeeding, erratic driving, or breaking the rulesânot your carâs paint job.
Interestingly, statistics suggest that the cars most frequently ticketed are often white, silver, and black. Why? Because these colours are more common on the road. Red cars might catch the eye, but they make up a smaller percentage of the vehicles out there, meaning theyâre less likely to be stopped overall.
So, where did this myth come from? It might stem from a mix of psychology and personal anecdotes. People remember seeing red cars stopped because theyâre visually striking. Itâs not that theyâre pulled over moreâitâs that theyâre simply more memorable.
The bottom line? Feel free to pick that cherry-red dream car without fear of extra tickets. Just remember, the real key to avoiding a run-in with the law is simple: drive responsibly. After all, speeding in a grey saloon will get you pulled over just as fast as in a flashy red roadster!
Happy driving! đđ¨

Think of Ferrari and youâre far more likely to imagine a bright red supercar than you are a subtle metallic green GT. But while the Italian company is best known for its sports cars, it also has a background in making some of the finest Grand Tourers the world has ever seen, too.
Â
Chief among those is the achingly pretty 456 GT. Styled by Pininfarina designer, Pietro Camardella, the 456 ruffled a few feathers when it debuted in 1992, the first front-engined V12 GT to emerge from the stable of prancing horses since the controversial 400 model in 1972. Â
Â
The 5.5-litre V12 rear-wheel-drive coupĂŠ was built in the oldest of traditions and was a much more conventional car than the companyâs mid-engined models, but in a glorious way â luxurious, comfortable and truly stunning to look at, it was Ferrariâs answer to Aston Martin and Bentleyâs big GTs and was a truly beautiful car. It was also the first car in the world to feature a single-piece composite âclamshellâ bonnet.
It enjoyed an 11-year production run, with a major face lift in 1998 leading to the introduction of the â456Mâ models (M for âModificatoâ), which were more refined and had subtle styling differences. This one is one of the purest, though â a pre facelift in ultra-rare metallic green with gorgeous tan leather, and with just 30,000 miles on the odometer, or barely more than1,000 miles per year.
Â
It's an absolutely stunning machine, in a rare and beguiling colour scheme, and for a modern classic Ferrari, we canât help but think it looks like decent value at a fiver under ÂŁ40k. Just try not to think too hard about the 12mpg average fuel consumption, though.

Here at The British Motor Show, we love a good motorsport story, and this oneâs a corker! Lewis Hamilton, Britainâs own seven-time Formula 1 World Champion, has officially started his journey with the legendary Scuderia Ferrari. Itâs not every day you see one of the greatest drivers of all time stepping into the iconic red overalls, and weâre here for it!
Hamiltonâs first day in Maranello was nothing short of spectacular. Greeted by a sea of cheering fans and Ferrari staff waving the famous prancing horse flags, Lewis looked every bit the part as he arrived at Ferrariâs headquarters. Sporting his new red team gear, he was all smiles as he soaked up the atmosphere of his new home.
"Joining Ferrari is a dream come true," Lewis shared during his first press conference. "This team has such an incredible legacy, and Iâm ready to give everything to add to that history."
â
â
Hamiltonâs day began with a personal tour of Ferrariâs state-of-the-art facilities. From the world-class simulator to the engineering offices, it was clear that every corner of Maranello is steeped in passion for racing. Team principal FrĂŠdĂŠric Vasseur was quick to sing Hamiltonâs praises: "Lewis brings unparalleled experience and determination to our team. Weâre eager to see what we can achieve together."
Of course, the highlight of the day was Hamiltonâs first track outing. After a detailed briefing with Ferrariâs engineers, he jumped into the teamâs current car, the SF-XX, for a shakedown session at Fiorano. Onlookers described his driving as "flawless" and "effortless" â but would we expect anything less from Lewis? As a special treat, he also took the iconic 312T, one of Ferrariâs most famous vintage racers, for a spin, calling it "an unforgettable experience."
Here at The British Motor Show, weâre beyond excited to see how this partnership unfolds. Social media is already abuzz, with fans dubbing him the #ScarletSpeedster and speculating on Ferrariâs chances for championship glory. One thing is certain: Lewis Hamiltonâs move to Ferrari has set the motorsport world alight.
Will this be the start of a winning era for Ferrari? Stay tuned â weâll be following every twist and turn of this thrilling new chapter. Roll on 2025!

It takes a fair bit of a mettle to buy what was once a ÂŁ130,000 supercar for the price of a pre-registered Fiat Panda, but what is life if not for living?
Â
Youâll certainly look like a high-roller in this weekâs Car of the Week â a 21-year-old Bentley Continental GT.
Â
Introduced at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show, theContinental GT was the first Bentley to be developed entirely by VW Group and away from Rolls-Royce â and it also very quickly became its fastest-ever seller, due in no small part to it being mass produced in the companyâs Crewe factory as opposed to being hand-built like its predecessors.
Â
It also had a lot of parts commonality with otherVW Group cars â the four-wheel-drive platform was derived from that of the VWPhaeton luxury saloon, while under the bonnet it got the German firmâs innovative 6.0-litre W12 engine, which in the GT came with twin turbochargers giving it 552bhp and a top speed of 196mph. That Breitling-faced clock in the dashboard has the same mechanism as the one in a Volkswagen Lupo, too, but strangely Bentley never shouted about this â indeed, it was only when a German car magazine took one apart in 2004 that anyone knew.
Clock aside, it was a hugely impactful car, both due to its imposing size and also its astonishing performance, while it was also as opulent as Bentley owners were used to. Its appeal went beyond the traditional, too, bringing Bentley ownership to a newer and more youthful customer base, helped in no small part by David and Victoria Beckham becoming one of the first customers.
Â
In time, a convertible appeared, along with a series of ever more expensive special editions, but this example is the GT as first intended â a large, imposing and powerful GT with an incredible soundtrack, in unmodified form, seven stamps in the service book and a low mileage. At ÂŁ15k, itâs a tempting package, even if it is one that wonât be cheap to run. But as weâve said, life is for living, right?

In many ways, this weekâs car of the week is the answer to the question that nobody asks, and itâs also one to only consider if youâre feeling brave.
Â
Irrespective, weâre glad it exists, and we absolutely love it. Introduced in 2002, the Volkswagen Passat W8 came from an era where charismatic, enigmatic leader Ferdinand Piech was in charge of Volkswagen, and through the companyâs multiple brands it was pushing whatever boundary it could come up against to show the rest of the automotive world that it could develop what ever new technology it needed to.
Â
The 4.0-litre Passat, offered as both a saloon can and an estate, was. marvellous oddball; its engine essentially half of the W16 unit fitted to the Bugatti Veyron. Nobody asked for it, and based on production numbers, hardly anyone bought one â there were just 250 right-hand-drive models built, and of those the majority were sent to Japan, which is where this one began its life.
Â
Under the bonnet lurked a fascinating curiosity; a 3,999cc engine made up of four banks of two cylinders, delivering a peculiar yet charismatic engine note that was deeper, smoother and more warbly than a conventional (and eminently more sensible) V8. It developed a modest 271bhp and came with 4MOTION four-wheel-drive, while the specification was as sumptuous as you might find in a high-end Audi A8.
Â
This one is a cracker â a Japanese import (as most RHD W8s are, by virtue of the Japanese being generally more open to bonkers ideas than usBrits) presented in the best colour of Spirit Blue, with rich grey leather upholstery. It has 64,000km on the clock (around 41,000 miles) and a fully stamped service book from its native market. Itâs available from a specialist dealer in Middlesbrough that selects and imports some of the best Japanese market cars it can find â and this one, by the looks of it, is an absolute gem. Itâs a lot of car for ÂŁ6,495.

Feeling brave?

Breaking News from The British Motor Show: JCBâs Hydrogen Engine Gets Green Light Across Europe!
In a groundbreaking development for the future of sustainable machinery, JCB has announced that its revolutionary hydrogen internal combustion engine (H2 ICE) is now officially certified for commercial use across Europe! This milestone paves the way for zero-emission construction and agricultural equipment to hit the market, thanks to JCBâs innovative technology.
The certification process was led by the Netherlandsâ Vehicle Authority (RDW), which issued the first approval. Following suit, ten other countries, including the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Switzerland, have also given the green light. More certifications are expected throughout 2025, meaning this game-changing engine could soon be powering machinery all over the continent.
Lord Anthony Bamford, JCB Chairman, shared his excitement:
"This is a very significant moment for JCB. Starting the year with certification in so many European countries bodes incredibly well for the future of hydrogen combustion technology."
Backed by a ÂŁ100 million investment and three years of tireless work from 150 engineers, the H2 ICE project has already delivered over 130 prototypes. These engines have been rigorously tested in backhoe loaders, telescopic handlers, and generators, proving they can match diesel engines in power while producing zero emissions.
Why is this such a big deal? Unlike battery-powered solutions, the hydrogen engine uses existing engine designs, making it a practical, cost-effective solution for heavy machinery. Itâs proof that the road to sustainability doesnât have to compromise performance or efficiency.
JCBâs hydrogen engine is set to revolutionise construction and agricultureâ The future is here, and itâs powered by hydrogen! đđ¨đ

But this isnât just nostalgia on wheelsâitâs a 914-horsepower monster powered by a twin-turbocharged 3.5L EcoBoost V6, borrowed from Fordâs Le Mans-winning GT. Electric car sales in the UK are surging, but are they growing fast enough to meet government targets? Forecasts suggest that 440,000 electric cars will be sold in 2025, making up 24% of all new car sales. This is an increase from 19.6% in 2024, but it still falls short of the governmentâs Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate target of 28%.
So, whatâs driving this growthâand whatâs holding it back?
The good news is that 2025 will see more affordable EV models, including compact options from new entrants like China. Battery prices are dropping, driving ranges are increasing, and ultra-rapid chargers are popping up nationwide, easing fears of running out of juice mid-journey. Businesses and fleets are leading the charge, incentivised by low tax rates and cost-saving salary sacrifice schemes.
However, private buyers face fewer financial perks, which slows their adoption. Meanwhile, some manufacturers lack enough EVs in their lineups to hit the ZEV targets, risking fines unless they strategise around low-emission petrol and diesel sales.
Despite these challenges, one thing is clear: people love driving EVs! Lower running costs, better performance, and a cleaner conscience are making the switch irresistible for many. While hurdles remain, the steady shift towards electrification is bringing the UK closer to its net-zero goals

Concept cars are cool, right? Breathtaking styling studies that show what could be, if only car companies werenât under the constraints of budgets, safety legislation and a fear of how customers might react to a car that looks like nothing else on the road.
Â
More or less 30 years ago to the day, though, Audi broke the mould. It showed us the TT Concept at the Detroit Motor Showâa two-door coupe with a distinctive âdouble rainbowâ profile hinting at a small, affordable sports GT. The reaction was incredible, but surely nothing this outlandish could see production. Could it?
Â
Well, in 1998, it did, and the Audi TT Coupe made its debut, priced from a very affordable ÂŁ19,995, and with a choice of two 1.8-litre turbocharged engines with either 180bhp or 225bhp power outputs, plus Quattro four-wheel-drive.
Â
It didnât matter that, under the skin, it was actually little more than a VW Golf Mk4, as this was platform-sharing at its best. Itkept costs down. Â It was so popular thatAudi had to delay right-hand-drive production to allow its Hungarian factory to keep up with initial demand. That was before the TT was made even more appealing thanks to the addition of a convertible model.
Â
This one is as pure as they get. Finished in smart Ocean Blue metallic, with half-leather and half-Alcantara trim, itâs one of the first UK-spec RHD Coupes and looks to be in very tidy condition, offered with a new MOT at the point of sale and a sensible mileage of 95k. At a shade under ÂŁ3,000, itâs a veritable bargain. If ever a car was a guaranteed future classic, then here it is.

V6 Busso. If youâre a died-in-the-wool petrolhead, youâll know exactly what that means, and why any car so-equipped is a very special thing indeed.
Alfa Romeoâs iconic engine is one of the most charismatic units ever developed. And charisma is something the Italian brand is famed forâ itâs very much a defining factor in what makes a brilliant car and a what constitutes a truly great one.
Alfa Romeo is a brand so soaked in charisma that even its humdrum four-cylinder models are dripping in the stuff, so, when it hits the bullseye, what you end up with is a car thatâs wonderful in every respect. The 156 is the ultimate definition of that â a one-time European Car of the Year champion, better built than any Alfa before it, stunning to look at and enchanting to drive.
Â
Then thereâs the Sportwagon. While other brands went about creating estates with big load bays and filled their brochures with bold statements about how they still looked good despite the long roof, Alfa went Full MetalJacket and created the prettiest estate car it could. In true Italian style, the cargo space ended up smaller than that of the saloon, but they handled that with an Italianate shrug and pointed out that if you wanted a good-looking estate car, you got what you were given.
Â
Already great, Alfa then mixed those ingredients up and threw in some additional flare in the form of the GTA model, which came with unique styling and alloys, a firmer ride, two-tone leather sports seats and a250bhp version of the intoxicating Busso V6.
This one is an absolute gem in terms of specification â a pre-face lift car with a six-speed manual transmission, finished in Brilliant Blue. Imported from Japan and with just 67,000 miles on the clock, itâs an absolutely wonderful example from a largely rot-free climate â and if you know your 156s, youâll know why thatâs important.
â
ÂŁ13k doesnât get you much in the car world these days, but it does get you this⌠and itâs a very difficult temptation to ignore.

The early 2000s were a great era for hot hatches, with an entire slew of new-generation sporty tin-tops developed with power output nearing 200bhp.
Â
One of our favourites is the RenaultSport Clio 172. A first-generation variant of the seminal RenaultSport hot hatch and the first model other than the low-volume Spyder to carry the official RS moniker.
â
â
Itâs a brilliant car in multiple ways. Sure, the later Renault Sport Clio models were faster, sharper and edgier, each in their own way, but the 172 was the original. The seminal example, upon which all others relied to simply exist.
Â
The Mk 1 Volkswagen Golf GTI wasnât the overall best GTI, but it was the grandaddy of them all â the purest of a breed that became massively well-loved.
Â
The Clio 172 has a similar pedigree, but it was also enormous fun from the outset; more tractable, affordable and nimble than a Civic Type R, which had similar performance but less low-down oomph, and less clichĂŠd than the MINI Cooper S, which was screamingly good fun to drive, but far less refined and a bit of a clichĂŠ in some ways.
â
The 172 was a car for hot hatch connoisseurs â and it stillis. People who love lightness, agility and a front-wheel-drive chassiswith impeccable turn-in and a habit of cocking its inside rear wheel undercommitted cornering. It was fun with a capital âFâ.
Â
This one is even more appealing by virtue of being a Cup â a pared down, lighter model designed foremost as a homologation special, making it faster, lighter and edgier than the standard models. Cup specification means thinner glass, no air conditioning, no ABS and lighter seats, making it feel like a pure, unspoilt, back-to-basics hot hatch.
Â
The car is for sale at a dealership in Mold, North Wales, and is a 68,000-mile car with full service history, a Brembo big brake kit and a recent suspension rebuild. Plus, itâs iconic Mondial Blue. At ÂŁ6,450, we reckon itâs a great investment for the future, as well as a car that will put a grin on your face every time you drive it.
Â
You can check it out here.

The 90's was a golden age for cars, with some stunning releases and absolute legends of the car world from all around the globe, making the 90's a contender for the greatest era to be a petrolhead!
â
We have picked out 5 of the top end and most famous cars from the 90s... have a read below and then head over to our facebook page to let us know what your thoughts are!
â
â
Letâs start with a legend. The Supra Mk4 is all about that 2JZ-GTE twin-turbo engine, famous for its insane reliability and tuning potential. Whether youâre into stock or souped-up beasts, this car delivers. Add in its sleek design, and thanks to The Fast and the Furious, itâs become a global icon.
â
â
Next up, another from the JDM side of car culture. If curves could kill, the RX-7 would be on the most-wanted list. Its lightweight body and perfect balance make it a dream to drive, while the high-revving rotary engine delivers a thrill like no other. Itâs quirky, gorgeous, and undeniably coolâa tunerâs playground and a puristâs joy.
â
â
â
This is the king of supercars. The McLaren F1 was the fastest car of its time, with a mind-blowing top speed of 240.1 mph, thanks to its naturally aspirated V12. With a central driverâs seat, gold-lined engine bay, and cutting-edge carbon fiber design, itâs not just a carâitâs a masterpiece. Only 106 were made, so if you ever see one, youâre witnessing history.
â
â
The 90s was a big year for Japanese icons as proven with another here, The car that earned the nickname Godzilla for its dominance on the track. With its advanced all-wheel-drive system and the legendary RB26DETT twin-turbo engine, the R34 was (and still is) the ultimate tuner car. It's also a star in the Fast & Furious franchise, cementing its status as a fan favourite.
â
â
Finally an Italian legend that may not be a fan favourite but is definitely one for the history books. Ferrari took their Formula 1 expertise and turned it into the stunning F50. With a 4.7L V12 thatâs basically an F1 engine for the road, itâs raw, loud, and pure exhilaration. Limited to just 349 cars, the F50 is as exclusive as it getsâand it looks absolutely jaw-dropping.
â
These cars didnât just define the 1990s; they redefined what cars could be. Whether itâs raw speed, breathtaking design, or cutting-edge technology, each of these icons earned its place in automotive historyâand in our hearts. Which oneâs your favourite? Let us know by heading to the link below đâ¨

Unless youâve been hiding under a rock for the past fortnight, then youâll have been unable to avoid mention of Jaguar in your newsfeed â the brandâs controversial reboot causing a stir among hardcore fans of the marque.
Whatever you think of the branding and its mish-mash of uppercase and lowercase letters, one thing that we do know is that Jaguar will never be the same again â its future will be based around low-volume, ÂŁ100k-plus electric cars marketed at an exclusive audience.
â
According to our sources in the trade, the news has had a knock-on effect on used values of older Jaguars, partly because the brand has been brought into focus, and perhaps more because buyers are realising that if they want to get behind the wheel of a âproperâ Jaguar, then the opportunity is now or never.
Here, then, is a great opportunity for you to enjoy one of the most luxurious and satisfying Jaguars ever made, for less than a tenth of what its first owner shelled out for it 10 years ago.
Itâs a 2015 XJ Portfolio, with the 3.0-litre twin-turbodiesel engine. What that means is a specification list that includes thekitchen sink (well, perhaps not that, but you do get heated seats front andrear, double glazing, sat nav, a reversing camera and a star-gazing panoramic roof), plus fuel economy giving mpg in the low 40s, rather than the low-teensthat youâd get out of a petrol-powered model.
â
It's a fabulous-looking car, a great colour, and although it has 137,000 miles on the clock, itâs backed up by a fairly comprehensive service history and a dealer warranty.
Â
At less than seven grand, itâs insanely tempting â and with the ability to cover 800 miles on a tank of diesel, itâs got way more range than the next generation of Jaguars can even dream ofâŚ

In the first of a new series, the British Motor Show team brings you its pick of the week from the Motors.co.uk classifieds â and this week itâs a Nineties favourite thatâs all the money. Weâll pick something cheaper next week, we promise, but of all the cars on Motors.co.uk at the moment, weâre starting with the one we want to own the most.
As icons of the 1990s go, the Ford Escort Cosworth is up there with Oasis, Blur, Britney Spears and Ant and Dec â and arguably more entertaining than all of them.
Built on Fordâs behalf in OsnabrĂźck, by German coachbuilder and design house Karmann, itâs of the most iconic Group A rally car homologation specials ever made.
Less than 8,000 Escort Cosworth were made between 1992 and 1996, allowing the Blue Oval to compete on the world rally stage and achieve a total of 10 WRC victories. Under the skin, it had much more in common with the Ford Sierra than it did the Escort â but this was deliberate. Having recognised length as the Sierra Sapphire Cosworth 4x4âs biggest failing as a rally car, Fordâs motorsport engineers took a section out of the floorpan so the truncated car could do battle with the short wheelbase Imprezas and Corollas that were dominatiu g the WRC stage.
The body was a facsimile of the Mk5 Escort dropped on top, though in reality it was only the roof, windscreen, doors and rear light units that were the same as on the humdrum family hatch. The rest was bespoke, hence why all were hand-built by one of the best coachbuilders in the business.
This one is one of the last, and also the most desirable being a Cosworth Lux. That means it also got leather seats and air con, but just because it was plush didnât mean it was a sissy. Far from it, as the 224bhp turbocharged engine proved.
This one is mega-special as it has covered just 9,445 miles from new. Thatâs enough for it to garner a healthy dose of Ford tax, but as the saying goes â find another!
If you havenât got ÂŁ115k to spend, the good news is that you can bag an Escort Cosworth without such provenance for far less and ÂŁ45k will get you a good one â but this one is a very special car indeed.
